How it can help

Outwood Academy Normanby’s Additionally Resourced Provision (ARP) was established in September 2025 for students with cognition and learning needs.

Choosing the right secondary school is a big step for any family. Our ARP offers a supportive, nurturing, and specialised environment where children can truly thrive. It is a dedicated space within the academy designed to bridge the gap between primary and secondary school, ensuring every student feels confident, capable, and included.

A Small, Supportive Community

We believe that children learn best when they feel safe and well-supported. To make sure your child gets the attention they need we provide:

  • Small Class Sizes: Your child will learn in a calm group of just 7 to 10 students.
  • High Staffing Levels: Every class has at least two dedicated adults to guide and encourage them.
  • Expert Leadership: Our ARP is led by a specialist SEND teacher who is primary-trained. This means they truly understand the "step up" from primary school and know how to support students working at a Year 3 level as they begin their Year 7 journey.

A Curriculum That Fits Your Child

Our goal is to give every student a full and exciting school experience, tailored specifically to how they learn.

  • Specialist Subjects: Students do not just stay in one room. They enjoy the full "big school" experience by using specialist classrooms for Science, Food Technology, and PE, learning directly from subject experts.
  • Mastering the Basics: We place huge importance on the "building blocks" of education. We provide extra focus on Reading and Maths to help every child gain confidence in these essential skills.
  • Lessons Built for You: While students follow a similar path to their peers, we adapt every lesson to match their individual pace and learning style.

Supporting the Whole Child

We know that being happy and settled is just as important as academic success. We offer a wide range of emotional and social support (SEMH) whenever it is needed. This includes popular programmes such as:

  • ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support)
  • The 5-Point Scale (to help manage feelings)
  • Headstart, MFC, and Kidz Konnect

Looking to the Future

As your child grows in confidence and ability, we encourage them to take part in more of the wider school life. Our ultimate goal is for every student to leave us with a sense of achievement and a portfolio of qualifications.

Depending on their individual progress, students will work towards a variety of qualifications by the end of Year 11, ranging from Entry Level certificates to Level 2 (GCSE) qualifications.

We are proud of our ARP and the wonderful progress our students make. We look forward to welcoming you and your child to the Outwood Academy Normanby family.
