A sensory impairment is when one or more of your senses is not working as it should. Examples of sensory impairments are:
- Deafness or a hearing impairment;
- Blindness or a visual impairment; or
- Deafblindness.
If you, or someone you care for has a sensory impairment there are a range of support and services available which will help to maintain independence and safety, including equipment and minor adaptations to your home.
If you already have a social worker, you can ask them about equipment or adaptations available to support you. If you do not have a social worker, you can contact adult social care on 01642 771500 or via email at adultsensorysupport@redcar-cleveland.gov.uk to ask for your needs to be assessed.
