Sensory impairments

Find information about support if you are living with sensory impairments.

A sensory impairment is when one or more of your senses is not working as it should.  Examples of sensory impairments are:

  • Deafness or a hearing impairment;
  • Blindness or a visual impairment; or
  • Deafblindness.

If you, or someone you care for has a sensory impairment there are a range of support and services available which will help to maintain independence and safety, including equipment and minor adaptations to your home.

If you already have a social worker, you can ask them about equipment or adaptations available to support you.  If you do not have a social worker, you can contact adult social care on 01642 771500 or via email at adultsensorysupport@redcar-cleveland.gov.uk to ask for your needs to be assessed.    Alternatively, you can contact us using Relay UK.

You can find a list services to support adults with a sensory impairment in our service directory.
