Childcare Element of Universal Credit

Eligible parents may be able to claim back up to 85% of their childcare costs.

The amounts parents can receive in childcare costs are a maximum of £1031.88 per month for one child or a maximum of £1768.94 per month for two or more children.    There is additional support to help with the upfront cost of childcare - parents may be able to get help with upfront costs if they are starting work or increasing the hours they work, for example moving from part time work to full time work.  Parents can apply for this additional support through their Universal Credit account or via their local jobcentre or work coach.

Childcare providers should give parents appropriate documents (for example contracts, invoices, receipts)  to enable them to evidence and reclaim childcare costs through Universal Credit.
