Julie Thompson

I am a qualified NNEB Nursery Nurse/childminder. I have always worked with babies and children. I have experience of working in day nurseries and in a school setting. I have been a childminder since Feb 2010. I have been a childminder for 14 years. I am married to Jonathan and we have a 7 year old daughter called Summer. We have two cats that are called Patches and Smudge. 

I offer a range of learning experiences, toys and equipment that cover all areas of the early years foundation stage document. I also offer learning opportunities for older children during afterschool and holiday time. I adapt our topics for each individual child. I have a separate room equipped for childminding that leads out onto a fully enclosed large garden. The garden offers lots of learning experiences and physical play on our climbing, swing and slide. There is a wooden house area that has sand, water and a play kitchen. I offer a variety of different bikes and ride ons and a smaller slide for the younger children. We have an area for planting and a large tuff tray outside.   

In my work as a nursery nurse I have gained experience about how to care for children as individuals and how to encourage them to develop to their best. When I worked with the babies my duties were to provide an environment that was safe, warm and welcoming. It was my responsibility to make sure all children were fed on time and stimulated appropriate to their age.  

I have worked with a variety of aged children, from 0-5 in a day care setting, 5-8 in a school setting. I have seven years experience of working with children in a day care setting and eight years experience of working in a school setting.  I have always worked with children and enjoy everyday with them because two days are never the same.

And many more.  I have worked at a school for eight years. While working at the school I have gained experience of working with children aged 5-8 years, the national curriculum, ofsted procedures, ELS, reading and behaviour management. My responsibilities were to work with small groups to encourage each child to develop to their best. I also taught whole classes to cover teacher’s absences.
