What is an Apprenticeship? An apprenticeship is a work-based learning programme for people who want to continue their learning outside of further education. The programme combines off the job training with learning and practice in the workplace.

How it can help

Our Apprenticeships Middlesbrough Community Learning offers two levels of apprenticeships: • Intermediate (Level 2) • Advanced (Level 3)  

What's involved Competence/knowledge qualification   Confirms competence in performing a skill and develops knowledge and understanding of the area being studied Functional Skills Maths, English and ICT skills required in our everyday lives All apprentices undergo a maths and English assessment prior to commencement of their training programme.  

Who are they for? • Anyone aged 16 and over, subject to eligibility • Apprentices must be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week.  

The Training Agreement An employer is required to enter into an agreement with Middlesbrough Community Learning and the apprentice to confirm their commitment to the apprentice and their programme of learning.

  Assessment An apprentice is required to attend the training centre to cover the knowledge requirements of their programme. Assessment in the workplace is required to confirm competence of skills and knowledge and forms an integral part of the qualification.  

Progress Review Visits/Monitoring Review visits will be carried out on a regular basis to monitor progress, to set personal goals and targets and to offer support.  

Other Visits Representatives from the Skills Funding Agency or OFSTED may visit during your apprenticeship. Prior notice of all visits will be given
