Autism Spectrum Condition/Disorder- ASC/ASD - Getting help from Health Services for children and young people

Neurodevelopmental Pathway - Assessment Route for Autism and Associated Conditions

Across South Tees, we have a ‘needs led’ neurodevelopmental pathway as we want to make sure you and your child are supported as much as possible, if you or a professional thinks that your child has a neurodevelopmental need. These are needs which are associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

We have created a ‘bubble of support’ across your local area with many services which can offer advice, guidance or support. There are also very active Parent Carer Forums which can offer peer support. There is also a comprehensive ‘virtual’ offer which can offer alternative websites and support tips for you to try at home.

Any professional working with the child/young person can make the neuro referral but it should be someone who knows the child best. In many cases, this is a school professional. Prior to making the referral, a call must be made to the Neuro Consultation Line - this is for professionals only. Once the call has been made, advice will be given whether a referral is appropriate to be made at that time or advice may be to seek support from another service are prior to the neuro referral. This could be seeking support from our mental health teams in school or from the Getting Help/More Help teams at CAMHS dependent on need. We have recently shared a graduated response for schools to use prior to making the neuro referral. This is to ensure that the child is accessing support needed as quickly as possible.
