NHS North East & North Cumbria Integrated Care Board (ICB) has worked with the local authorities in Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland, Stockton, and Hartlepool to commission a coordinated service to provide equipment for children across Tees.  Health professionals and social care teams now order equipment via Tees Community Equipment Service (TCES).

How it can help

NHS North East & North Cumbria Integrated Care Board (ICB) has worked with the local authorities in Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland, Stockton, and Hartlepool to commission a coordinated service to provide equipment for children across Tees.  Health professionals and social care teams now order equipment via Tees Community Equipment Service (TCES).

Once equipment has been ordered from TCES health or social care professionals will confirm this with parents or carers who, thereafter they will be able to liaise directly with TCES to understand delivery times and any issues or problems they experience once the equipment has been delivered.

Tees Community Equipment Service (TCES) loans out equipment and medical aids to assist people with daily living. This helps older and disabled people to live more independently and for longer in their own homes, which helps to improve their quality of life.

Individuals are assessed by health and social care professionals to determine their needs. The service also works with the area’s hospitals to prevent admission to hospital, and, where someone has been admitted to hospital, to support a prompt discharge.

Returning equipment

TCES relies on equipment being returned after use so it can be reused or recycled, helping to extend the service and keep costs down. Please make sure to return as many unneeded items as possible, so we can continue to provide and improve the support they offer to those in need.

Any equipment on loan from the NHS or social care which is no longer used or needed should be returned to TCES as soon as possible.

Examples of equipment include:

  • crutches
  • walking frames or sticks
  • beds
  • mattresses
  • hoists
  • cushions
  • bath lifts
  • commodes

If you're not sure whether the equipment belongs to TCES, please call 01642 224205 or email tces@middlesbrough.gov.uk.

Equipment can be returned to the Tees Community Equipment Store at: Unit 3, Raleigh Court, Riverside Park, Middlesbrough, TS2 1RR, from 9am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday.

Free collection is available for equipment that can't be dropped off – call the TCES freephone number 0800 328 7980 to arrange a collection.

Please note that TCES can't collect wheelchairs.

Returned items will be assessed and safety tested before either being cleaned, repaired and re-used, or stripped down to be recycled.
