Paediatric Physiotherapy

Paediatric Physiotherapy - the service caters for children and young people who have physical difficulties including movement, gait, development and respiratory disorders.

Physiotherapists work with people to identify and maximise their ability to move and function. They provide assessment, treatment and interventions with support from therapy support workers.
Interventions can be on a 1:1 basis but often include a Physiotherapy programme to be completed by the child/young person with support from family/carers at home and/or education staff in school.
Specialist equipment e.g. standing or walking frames can be prescribed and/or referrals completed to other specialist health professionals as deemed clinically appropriate.

This service will see children from birth to 18 years or 19 years if there is a statement of educational needs and will also see young people known to the service with a long term disability up to the age of 25 years.

The team consists of experienced specialist Physiotherapists and Therapy Support Workers.
We provide specialist Physiotherapy advice, assessment and treatment for babies, children and young people aged from birth to 19 years old.
Support and advice is provided to the children/young people and their family/carers in the most appropriate setting e.g. home, clinic or school/nursery.
We work very closely with other health professionals to provide the best possible car to the children/young people and their families.
The service is base at West Acklam Centre, where we have space to see the children/young people.

In Redcar & Cleveland this services is provided by South Tees NHS Foundation Trust.

Referrals are accepted from health, education and social care professions.
We hold satellite clinics for pre-school children in some of the Family Hubs so the children can be seen closer to home. The team has close links with the Early Years Service including portage.
Some clinic appointments for older children are available at East Cleveland Primary Care Hospital, Redcar Primary care Hospital and Guisborough General Hospital.
