The Bridge Project

The Bridge Project

Guisborough Bridge Association aims to provide life and support in the heart of the community. It was set up as a community project by Churches together in Guisborough and is an independent charity.

How it can help

Activities include:

* Soup and a Roll - Teams of volunteers sell soup, rolls, teas and coffees - offering a nutritious and inexpensive lunch. This activity is extremely popular and a valuable fund raiser - Thursday morning at Guisborough Methodist Church

* Bridge2Youth -  Friday nights we have Bridge2Youth from after school to 9.30pm. The sessions are: 3.15-6pm relaxed session with games and crafts plus food and is aimed at ages 9-14; then 6-8pmfor the 11+ group we have a discussion spot on topical issues but also time for games and chat; finally from 8-9.30pm we have discussion time with the older 15 to 18 year olds. We hope this provision allows young people to come along and have fun and learn about issues relevant to them ... We also plan events like youth weekends, coffee mornings and holiday activities for 11-16 year olds.

* Summer holiday club - the last few years we have run summer holiday clubs for primary age children with games, crafts, stories and music. [themes have included: Seaside, Pirates, Spies, Environment and Explorers].

*  Coffee Mornings from 10-12 at Guisborough Methodist Church every Tuesday- an opportunity to call in for home baking, welcoming atmosphere and a chat.

* Christmas Day Meal - we would hate to see anyone in Guisborough alone at so we have a this festive time and we provide a meal at the Methodist Church on Christmas Day.

* FoodStop - Our foodbank provides for the people of Guisborough and the local area. We work with a voucher system and offer parcels for 3 days for families and individuals struggling to pay bills and cope. The main sessions are through Soup & Roll and our Coffee mornings but we do have 'out of hours' provision for those in desperate need.

* Kemplah Day Centre - On Wednesday lunchtimes we run a lunch and social activities project for the older members of our community. Dominoes, scrabble, newspapers and chat entertain our group and they have a 3 course meal plus teas & coffees; they even have a 'chair exercises' time if they wish to get involved!

* Monday Friends - provides a social venue on a Monday morning at Sunnyfield House with delicious cakes and sandwiches. Events and trips are organised during the year and it is a thriving community providing a great space to make friends.

* Homeless - to put people in touch with organisations that can offer advice and support on various aspects of homelessness.
